Description

Gheg personal/clan protective spirit. Every human has one ora from birth; appearance matches character (white/beautiful vs black/ugly; also yellow oras in Elsie). Oras protect their charge, may teach healing, dwell in mountains/forests/waters/caves or house eaves, and often appear as serpents—a cradle snake is the ora of house and baby (Doja). Parallel face: night assembly distributing newborn favours under a principal ora on a rock (~300; Lambertz via Doja); Dukagjini colour-fates e Bardha / e Verdha / e Zeza; idiom or-prem (cut by the ora). Epic actors in Orët e Mujit and related songs (Elsie–Mathie-Heck). Lead story

Moonlight on the high meadows. Slavic warrior Paji Harambashi hunts Gjeto Basho Mujo and finds no man—only three snow-white oras reveling at a fountain’s edge. He asks whose aid they are. One answers: the oras of the great earthly hero; they give their aid to Mujo. Rage takes him. He seizes one ora’s arm, clenches, crushes it. The three turn from play to grievance. Their charge is Mujo; the insult is Mujo’s to avenge. They seek him—not as southern cradle-scribes with honey bowls, but as northern mountain companions whose broken arm binds a kreshnik’s honor. So the song opens the warrior’s day under ora protection: white figures at water and rock, fate worn as bodyguard, not butterfly. When Mujo answers, the frontier hears that an ora’s wound is a man’s war.
