Description

Younger brother-hero of the Kângë Kreshnikësh cycle; twin-complement of elder Muji. Known as Sokol Halili of Jutbina. Lead story

Younger of the Jutbina pair, Sokol Halili rides where the elder’s name already hangs over the plain. When an ora points the bridal road, he takes Tanusha’s trail; when birds cry Mujo’s need, the elder’s rescue answers the same frontier. Later the wounding of Mujo turns Halili into the cycle’s avenger: while ora and a medicine-serpent (and, in the song’s bedside menagerie, a wolf) keep the elder alive, Halili takes the king’s head. Death comes crooked — a false rumor, a body that fails, a zana’s dagger cutting three serpents from the stomach of the song. After Mujo’s secret grave has slept seven years, a sea-baloz digs; Halili kills the monster; the zanas lift the brother back into the living map. That is the twin’s work in the lahutë’s country: marriage, revenge, death, afterlife — not a second Muji origin, and not another man’s ballad under a similar first name.
