Description

Spring calendar feast, not a deity. Tirta’s densest chapter treats Dita e Verës as Kryeviti / Motmoti i Ri on 1 March across many villages: three-day feast with kurban, ritual bread, neighbourhood/village fires in gardens–fields–hills, binding/sewing of evils, greening, silent ‘new water,’ first lucky-foot visitor (përshëndetës këmbëmbarë), and fertility rites for the agricultural year (≈ pp. 253–255; rites also migrate into Nevruz and Christian overlays). Yard/garden straw–juniper fires strengthen the sun and return ash force to soil (Kreu X ≈ 276–278; Dalinat e Verës straw-brand circling). Elsie s.v. Summer day preserves a central/southern March 14 Elbasan-belt face (Përmet, Opar, Gjirokastra) with yard bonfires marking winter’s end — keep as regional date overlay, not the only spine. Soft pair with shengjergji (different date) and buzmi (winter fire hinge); dielli/zjarri own solar-fire practice.

Lead story

One March the warm half opens as Kryeviti — Dita e Verës. Houses bake ritual bread; yards and gardens take straw fires before the sun is strong. Someone watches who first steps in with a lucky foot. New water is fetched without speech. Three days the village binds the year’s luck to fire, greening, and the first visitor. Elsewhere the same hinge answers as Elbasan’s March 14 bonfires — winter’s account closed, Shëngjergji still waiting his own date, Buzmi keeping the midwinter log.
