Story paths

Description

Buzmi is the Albanian Yule-log custom, not a deity. Elsie 2001 (s.v. Yule log): Alb. buzm, def. buzmi; on Christmas Eve (nata e buzmit) one family member (buzmar) goes into the yard and shouts the household head’s name, proclaiming the buzm is coming with bread and goods. Tirta notes that on Nata e Buzmit the table is left set all night with goods for spirits. Solstice and buzmi fires that strengthen the Sun belong with Dielli and Enji; this custom is the log, the call, and the Eve hinge — paired with Dita e Verës, not swallowed into Shëngjergji. The Christian Christmas Eve shell is calendar overlay, not a saint vita.

Lead story

Christmas Eve — Nata e Buzmit — the yard hears the buzmar call the house by name: the buzm is coming with bread. Elsie keeps the Yule-log custom. Tirta keeps the table left set for spirits that night. Why winter fires matter to the Sun stays with Dielli. Here the story is the log and the call — not a god, not a church vita.
