Perria

Perría

Label: loan stratum; secondary only — thinner vs zana.

Description

Elsie 2001 pp. 205–206: white mountain fairy; Turkish peri loan likely; bread-waste → crooked hunchback punishment — behavior distinct from zana martial and shtojzovalle dance figures. Lurker 2004 support. Label: loan stratum; secondary only — thinner vs zana.

Features

  • white mountain fairy appearance (Elsie 205–6)
  • bread-waste punishment → crooked hunchback

Lead story

White on the mountain, and a borrowed name. Perria — peri in the Ottoman ear — keeps a fairy face that northern speech still separates from the zana’s war and the shtojzovalle’s ring-dance. Waste bread, the dictionary says, and the beautiful figure may answer as a crooked hunchback. That is her pin: not armor, not revel, but the household insult that bends the spine of the tale. If someone says perria e detit, open the sea Beauty and water-maiden doors — do not assume this mountain sheet swam there alone.
